Why will you be removed from reiki school if you ask the right questions
In 2026, I was expelled from the closed Telegram channel of graduates of a professional retraining course in reiki. The reason is questions. Not aggressive. Not provocative.Common questions that any normal consumer of educational services asks.
QUESTIONS I ASKED:
— Does the teacher undergo personal therapy?
— Who is being supervised?
— What evidence-based methods does it work in?
— Where and when did you learn these methods?
I was removed without warning. No explanation.
WHY THESE QUESTIONS ARE THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
There is a standard in psychology and psychotherapy: the practitioner is required to undergo personal therapy and supervision. This is not a whim — it is an ethical requirement of professional associations (OPPL, APP, EAP).Without this, the practitioner cannot work with clients safely.
If a person issues a diploma of “professional retraining” and at the same time:
— does not undergo personal therapy
— has no supervisor
— cannot name an evidence-based method of his work
— excludes those who ask about it
…this is a red flag that can be seen from afar.
WHY ARE THE REST OF GRADUATES SILENT
The mechanism is well studied in social psychology:
Investments. The man paid money and time.Admitting that the course did not deliver what it promised means accepting the loss.Easier to protect your investment.
Belonging to a group. The alumni community gives you a sense of specialness.Questions that question the value of this affiliation are perceived as an attack.
The authority of the mentor. In spiritual practices, the figure of the teacher is sacralized.Criticism of a teacher = blasphemy.
Fear of isolation. Those who have seen the exceptions of others remain silent so as not to be next.
HOW TO DISTINGUISH A SAFE SCHOOL FROM AN UNSAFE SCHOOL
Ask these questions before paying:
Does the teacher undergo personal therapy?Good answer: names the method and frequency.Anxious: evasion or “why is this reiki?”
Is there a supervisor?Good answer: names the name and method.Anxious: ignored.
What evidence-based method is used?Good answer: CBT, MBSR, body-focused therapy.Alarming: “energy is the method.”
Reaction to your questions.A good sign: they answer, clarify, argue.Disturbing: removed from chat.
The response to questions will say more than any reviews on the school website.
If you are removed for asking questions about a teacher’s qualifications, that’s the answer.
